MANS is Muz Azar, Domenico Autuori, Jimbo Whiting and Max Luthy. An Iranian entrepreneur, an Italian metronome, a heartbroken Mongolian and a failed American svengali.
The London-based band formed in early 2012, and spent the year writing, recording and self-producing an LP in their own studio in King's Cross. Influenced by Portishead and (more audibly) by Prince and the entirety of the 1970s, the group captures a "purrple" groove.
With Strict Face and Mellow Magic Marker, there are hints of the raw rock wails, falsetto pleas, hookah bass hooks, Bristol-tinged production, and stank to come.
Perhaps it’s unwise to mix disco-Jagger, Pet Shop Boy-backings, and Aquemini-era-Outkast on only seven inches, but it is fun.
